Biographical/Historical Note

Jehu Baker was born in Fayette County, Kentucky, November 4, 1822, and died at his home in Belleville, Illinois, March 1, 1903. As an adult, he practiced law in Saint Clair County, Illinois. He was elected to Congress in 1865-1869, 1887-1889, and 1897-1899. In 1878-1885 he served as United States Minister to Venezuela.
