This collection contains land grant certificate number 1040 issued to Hugh Allen Anderson of Washington County, Arkansas.

Biographical/Historical Note

Colonel Hugh Allen Anderson (1782-1848) was born June 10, 1782 in Logan Station, Kentucky (then part of Virginia) to Captain William Anderson and Catherine Blair Anderson. Colonel Hugh Allen Anderson served during the War of 1812 as an officer. Anderson married his cousin Mary Allen Anderson January 11, 1810. The Andersons moved to Alabama in 1818 and then settled in Benton County, Arkansas in 1836. Colonel Hugh Allen Anderson died June 14, 1848.
