Description

This collection contains photocopies and typed transcripts of five letters written to Sarah Wilkinson from1860 to 1863. The letters include references to events of the Civil War in Arkansas.

Biographical/Historical Note

The letters in this collection were written to Sarah Jones Wilkinson during the Civil War. Wilkinson was born on February 14, 1844, in Mississippi. She married John Wilkinson in McLennan, Texas, in 1858. The letters in this collection were written to her by her mother, Harriett N. Miller, her sister, Cornelia, and brother, Bourbon. Wilkinson died on November 13, 1919. Her family lived in Clark County, Arkansas, in the towns Spring Vale (believed to be in Caddo Township in Clark County) and Roach Woods, the location of which is unknown. From the information in the letters, her brother, Bourbon, fought in Speights Regiment during the Civil War.
