This collection contains a list of needy and destitute families of soldiers in Sevier County, Arkansas from 1863.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Arkansas legislature approved, on December 1, 1862, an "Act to Provide for the Needy and Destitute Families of Soldiers in the State." The act appropriated funds for the relief of the families of "indigent" Confederate soldiers.
