This collection contains a letter written by Harris Wheat Hudson Company G, Harrell’s Battery, Arkansas Cavalry, Confederate States Army to his wife Martha Ellen "Matty" Byrne Hudson dated June 24, 1864.

Biographical/Historical Note

Harris Wheat Hudson (1826-1864) was born December 11, 1826 to James Harris Hudson and Sarah Ann Bellah Hudson in Lawrence County, Arkansas. Hudson married Martha Ellen “Matty” Byrne on June 2, 1851. They had five sons: James Brice Hudson, William Wiley Hudson, John Allen Hudson, Edward Stanford Hudson, and Wesley Wood Hudson and one daughter, Martha Harris Hudson. Harris Wheat Hudson served in Company G, Harrell’s Battery, Arkansas Cavalry, Confederate States Army during the Civil War. Hudson died of typhoid fever November 26, 1864 at Harrison, Arkansas.
