Description

This collection contains school records, diplomas, and commendations relating to Blair's military and civil service career as a chemist for the United States Army and Department of Defense from 1942-1966. Also included are legal and financial documents pertaining to Blair's estate.

Biographical/Historical Note

Born in October 1908 in Lamar, Arkansas, Herbert J. Blair attended school in Russellville. After a brief time as a teacher, Blair entered college and received his Masters in Science from Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1934 (now Northeastern Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical University). He began his career working in the petroleum industry in 1934. During World War II, Blair conducted research in chemical warfare for the United States Army. After the war, Blair settled in Alexandria, Virginia, and worked for the Department of Defense until he retired in 1966.
