Biographical/Historical Note
Archibald Yell served as Governor of Arkansas from 1840-1844 when he resigned to serve in the U.S. Congress. He served in the Mexican War, and was killed in action on February 22, 1847 at the Battle of Buena Vista. This letter between Brig. General Drew to Governor Yell was written in 1844 to discuss the reorganization of the Arkansas State Militia.
