One certificate issued to John A. Dudgeon signed by Charles V. Beloate, President, for eleven shares of stock in the Odd Fellows Building Company, Corning, Arkansas.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows was founded in Baltimore in 1819. The international group dates its founding back to the 13th century and the organization of tradesmen's guilds. It is an altruistic and benevolent fraternal organization that promotes personal and social development among its members. The Grand Lodge of Arkansas was founded in 1847. John A. Dudgeon, son of Joseph and Amanda Tiffany Dudgeon was born August 20, 1858, died on March 20, 1919 and is buried in the Corning cemetery. Dudgeon moved to Clay county with his parents about 1885. He married Mary Woodall on October 16, 1887. Charles Valentine Beloate was born in Tennessee on July 15, 1855. He moved to Corning with his parents, Charles R. and Agnes E. Whitt Beloate in 1869. Beloate owned a mercantile store in Corning, was a charter member of the Corning Methodist Church, married Ida May Pulliam and fathered three children. He died on July 8, 1951.
