A December 1884 petition requested that B.F. Atkinson and Stephen Wheeler run for the school board in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The petition was signed by many prominent men of the town, including Judge Isaac Parker, United States Representative and Marshall Thomas Boles, and future governor William Fishback.
