This collection contains one letter written by Elias Conway, when he was a United States Marshal, concerning the 1840 federal census.
Biographical/Historical Note
Elias Rector was born in Fauquier County, Virginia, in 1802. He came to Arkansas in 1823 as a surveyor and was appointed United States Marshal for Arkansas in 1830. Elias was a cousin to Arkansas governor Henry Massie Rector.
