Description

Letter from S.J. Howel to David C. Williams about the lack of Union support in the area. The letter also talks about delegates for and against the Union for the Secession Convention.

Pittsburg Ark
Feb 13th 1861
D.C Williams Esq
yours of the 11th Inst. is before
me and content sorted. I Rec'd one last week
but was waiting to hear from some other
Counties which I have failed to do. This
County has out no Union Candidates, which
I am sorry of. Disunion F.I. Batson
W.W. Floyd & Parson Lively. Pope Co
has on the Union Ticket Maj. West &
William Stout. Disunion Y.B. Shepherd &
Rev. George Bonds so I have been informed.
I have been absent and am not
posted. I am glad to see you in listed[sic]
in a cause so good as the present, and
hope by the Help of other good men
and the smiles of Providence we may
succede[sic] in turning back the side of
Fanaticism. I have never dispared[sic] yet
and hope the People may take it
in their own hands (Out of Party Hacks)
and settle the matter. I approve of
your plan of the Convention [illegible] back
to the People as I do not go much on
