Description
Military order from General Ben McCulloch posting pickets on the road from Fayetteville, Arkansas, to Springfield, Missouri, to watch for Union troops.
Transcription
Camp Walker
July 2d 1861
The troops from Fayetteville on
the road to Springfield, will keep
pickets or spies on the road in
the direction of Springfield so as to
prevent the approach of the enemy
towards either Bentonville or Fayetteville
within their knowledge. in the event
of their (the enemy) advancing in force, you
will amediately[sic] send a runner to this
camp & at the same time fall back
& obstruct the road by [illegible] [illegible]
Keep me informed of all that occurs
of interest in your direction

This order was ready soon after Gen McCulloch takes command.
I was in command of about 100 cavalry, & was accepted
as a spye, on [illegible], taken the advance
on Springfield AVR
