28th Regt. A.M. March 29th 1861
To His Excellency
H.M. Rector.
Governor of State of Arkansas.
Dear, Sir
Sometime since I
Sent to your office a Certificate of an election
for Officer in the different Companies in my
Regiment & not having received the com-
missions, I have concluded that they have
probably been miscarried In mail. If the
same has arrived satisfactory please have forwarded
the commissions at Your earliest convenience
I notice in the last acts of the legislature that
each Company is entitled to 1 fife, & 1 Drum
I am therefore desirous of procuring one
for each company & 1 if they be allowed,
by the state 1 Drum, & Fife for Drum &
Fife Majors, as soon as they can be gotten, I
am prepared to give the necessary band as
required by law. We have now two volunteer
Companies in good progress & commanded
by competent Officers. The Clark County
Light Artillery by Capt. F. Roberts, &
the Jackson Blues by Capt. Shaw.
Capt. Roberts has made application to
the adjuant General for Arms & Cap
Shaw of the Infantry company,
[Page 2] is also desirous of obtaining arms,
if he should apply. I do most cheerfully
recommend that they be furnished
him and believe that both companies
will do credit to themselves, & the
state.
Yours Respectfully
Obt. Svt.
