This collection of records consists of signed documents stating country of origin and a renunciation of allegiance to the home country and statement of allegiance to the United States, between the years 1855 and 1887. There are no other supporting documents to accompany these statements.
Biographical/Historical Note
This group of records is part of a larger collection once housed at the Powhatan Courthouse that was donated by the Lawrence County Historical Society in 2010. Records in this collection are county copies of documents filed by foreign nationals intending to become citizens of the United States.
