Description

This collection contains the deeds and lot registry of the African American section of Oakland Fraternal Cemetery in Little Rock.

Biographical/Historical Note

Oakland-Fraternal Cemetery in Little Rock was founded in the 1860s. In 1868 a small area was designated as a burial place for black members of the Odd Fellows, a fraternal organization. In 1888 several additional black lodges asked for a separate burial site nearby to serve their membership, so the city set aside fourteen acres. The Oakland-Fraternal Cemeteries are located at 2101 Barber Street.
