This collection contains materials related to the William T. Mills family of Marshall, Arkansas, and the Robert Franklin Wood family of Calico Rock, Arkansas, including photographs, news articles, marriage licenses, and other personal items.
Biographical/Historical Note
William Thomas Mills was born in Eglantine, Van Buren County, Arkansas, in 1879. He married Bess McBride on December 7, 1904. He was a candidate for U.S. Representative from Arkansas, 3rd District, in 1908, and the delegate to the Republican National Convention from Arkansas, in 1924 and 1936. He was also the Republican candidate for Governor of Arkansas in 1946 and 1948 (primary). Mills died in Marshall, Searcy County, Arkansas, on October 17, 1952. Robert Franklin Wood was born three miles southeast of Calico Rock on June 11, 1874. He married Mary Frances Smith on December 19, 1900. Wood moved to Calico Rock in 1903. He was active in the Calico Rock Methodist Church, serving as superintendent of the church school for 13 years and for a number of years as a teacher of the adult Bible class. He was well-known in his community as a merchant and salesman. Mills died on November 14, 1959.
