This collection consists of the correspondence and writings of Dallas T. Herndon, Executive Secretary of the Arkansas History Commission, 1911-1953.

Biographical/Historical Note

Dallas T. Herndon was born on August 28, 1878, in Elberton, Georgia. Herndon was the first executive secretary of the Arkansas History Commission and served from 1911 to 1953. Herndon was the author of "Centennial History of Arkansas" (1922), "Why Little Rock Was Born" (1933), the "Arkansas Handbook" (1936, 1938, and 1940 editions), and "Annals of Arkansas" (1947). Herndon died on February 21, 1953.
