Biographical/Historical Note
Louise McPhetridge Thaden was an aviation pioneer who held numerous flight records during the late 1920s and 1930s. At one point, she was the most famous American female aviator, after Amelia Earhart. She was born in Bentonville, Arkansas, on November 12, 1905, to Roy and Edna McPheridge. She competed in numerous aviation competitions until retiring in 1838. McPhetridge died in High Point, North Carolina, on November 9, 1979. In 2019, she was inducted into the Arkansas Women's Hall of Fame.
