Description

This collection consists of the gubernatorial papers of Tom J. Terral, Governor of Arkansas from 1925 to 1927.

Biographical/Historical Note

Tom J. Terral was born December 21, 1883, at Union Parish, Louisiana. His parents were George W. and Celia Calk Terral. He attended the University of Kentucky in 1905 and 1906. In 1910, he graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Law. In the following years, Terral, a Democrat, served as secretary of the Arkansas Senate, 1911 and 1912; assistant deputy state superintendent, 1913-1916; secretary of state, 1917-1921; and governor of Arkansas, 1925-1927. Terral was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, the Ancient Order of United Workmen, the Free and Accepted Masons, and the Missionary Baptist Church. Governor Tom J. Terral died in 1946.
