Description
This document is proof of publication from the Walnut Ridge Times-Dispatch showing that they advertised the court proceedings to consolidate school districts number 62 and number 80.
Biographical/Historical Note
In 1946, due to attendance numbers and finances, the County Board of Education of Lawrence County accepted the petition from the Oak Grove School District #62 to be dissolved. The area encompassed by district #62 was then added into the new, larger district #80. As transportation and infrastructure improved, the need for numerous small schools dwindled. Eventually, this district would be further consolidated into the present day Walnut Ridge school district.
