St. Louis, Iron Mountain, and Southern Railroad, Texarkana, Arkansas, station ledger, 1880

 

The St. Louis, Iron Mountain, and Southern Railroad, Texarkana, Arkansas, station opened in 1874 as the last extension of the line under the ownership of Thomas Allen. In 1880, Allen sold his interest in the railroad to Jay Gould of St. Louis, Missouri. Gould, owner of the Texas and Pacific Railroad, wanted to extend trade from Missouri through Arkansas to Mexico.
