This collection contains microfiche of the 1988 IGI for Canada, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and the United States of America.

Biographical/Historical Note

The International Genealogical Index (IGI) is produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons or LDS). Originally, the IGI was created in 1969 to help keep track of deceased individuals who had temple ordinances performed. Today, it has grown into one of the largest genealogical databases. Volunteers transcribe birth certificates, marriage licenses, census data, parish records, and other information into the IGI, spanning 90 countries and hundreds of years. Today, the complete IGI is available for searching on the internet through Familysearch.org, a website maintained by the LDS church.
