Nov. 23, 1816 Wm. H. Etter, born in Tork County, Pa., founded Washington, Ark. Telegraph 1840, oldest weekly newspaper west of the Mississippi.
The Washington Telegraph was the only Arkansas newspaper that did not suspend publication during the Civil War. Judge John R. Eakin was editor.
