May 15, 1841 Governor Jas. H. Berry born in Alabama, lived in Carroll and Benton Counties, governor 1883-1885, U. S. Senator, lieut. in Confederate army.

Baxter, Grant, Brooks.

May 15, 1874, President Grant recognized Elisha Baxter as lawful governor over claims of Joseph Brooks.
