Description
This collection contains a letterhead and envelope from the Metropolitan Hotel, dated 1873.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Metropolitan Hotel was a luxury hotel in downtown Little Rock on the corner of Markham and Main streets. E.A. Deuel was its proprietor. The hotel burned on December 14, 1876, in a fire that destroyed two blocks and damaged the City Hall. A.G. DeShon, the former manager of the Metropolitan, was instrumental in transforming the Denckla Block, a business and office building nearby, into the Capital Hotel, filling the void left by the Metropolitan's destruction.
