Biographical/Historical Note

The song "The Bonnie Blue Flag" was written by Harry Macarthy, an Arkansas comedian, after newsof Mississippi's secession from the Union. Macarthy was performing in Jackson, Mississippi, when hewitnessed joy and jubilation as the flag of the Confederacy was unfurled. He was so moved he composedthis song, which became an anthem of the South.
