This collection contains photocopies of the sheet music of "The Bonnie Blue Flag" and a newspaper article, published in Jackson, Mississippi, about the song.
Biographical/Historical Note
The song "The Bonnie Blue Flag" was written by Harry Macarthy, an Arkansas comedian, after news of Mississippi's secession from the Union. Macarthy was performing in Jackson, Mississippi, when he witnessed joy and jubilation as the flag of the Confederacy was unfurled. He was so moved he composed this song, which became an anthem of the South.
