This collection contains a receipt given to Hiram Brodie in compensation for a claim against the United States government from seized funds.

Biographical/Historical Note

Hiram Brodie was born in Decatur County, Tennessee on May 10, 1809. He moved to Arkansas in 1833and was one of the first settlers of Columbia County. He owned and operated the Planters’ Hotel in 1861and was the Crawford County Assessor from 1864 to 1868, serving two terms.
