This letter to Sam Williams discusses a map of the Civil War in Missouri and Arkansas that Langtreedrew.

Biographical/Historical Note

Caleb Langtree was a native of Ireland and settled in Arkansas prior to 1840. He married Eliza JosephineFarrelly, eldest daughter of Terrence Farrelly of Arkansas County, on November 28, 1839. They hadseveral children and grandchildren.Langtree was a civil engineer, employed for many years as the draftsman and clerk for the SurveyorGeneral of Arkansas. He drew the first sectional map of Arkansas. He died January 27, 1874.
