Description
This letter to Sam Williams discusses a map of the Civil War in Missouri and Arkansas that Langtree drew.
Biographical/Historical Note
Caleb Langtree was a native of Ireland and settled in Arkansas prior to 1840. He married Eliza Josephine Farrelly, eldest daughter of Terrence Farrelly of Arkansas County, on November 28, 1839. They had several children and grandchildren. Langtree was a civil engineer, employed for many years as the draftsman and clerk for the Surveyor General of Arkansas. He drew the first sectional map of Arkansas. He died January 27, 1874.
