Description

This collection contains correspondence from John H. Jameson to his wife, Thirsaline, while he was a soldier during the Civil War, and Confederate currency.

Biographical/Historical Note

John H. Jameson and his wife, Thirsaline, lived in Elmwood, Missouri, and had at least two children, Frank and Eliza. Jameson enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1862, as a private, Company E, Eighteenth Missouri Infantry. Later in the Civil War, he was captured by Union forces in the Battle of Helena and spent a couple of years in the prison at Alton, Illinois. He died on March 19, 1876.
