Description

This collection contains correspondence from John H. Jameson to his wife, Thirsaline, while he was asoldier during the Civil War, and Confederate currency.

Biographical/Historical Note

John H. Jameson and his wife, Thirsaline, lived in Elmwood, Missouri, and had at least two children,Frank and Eliza. Jameson enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1862, as a private, Company E, EighteenthMissouri Infantry. Later in the Civil War, he was captured by Union forces in the Battle of Helena andspent a couple of years in the prison at Alton, Illinois. He died on March 19, 1876.
