Description

This letter from Union soldier E.H. Fisher describes the Civil War battle of Baton Rouge in August 1862.

Biographical/Historical Note

Eden H. Fisher was born in Ohio on April 20, 1840,to Henry C. and Mary Ann (Eckert) Fisher. He enlisted as a private on June 6, 1861, in the 21st Indiana Regiment of Noble County. Fisher took partin the Battle of Baton Rouge when the Confederate military attempted to regain control of the city on August 5, 1862. The 21st fought for three and a-half hours, losing a total of 126 men.
