This collection contains one letter written by Abraham L. Black to his father, Thomas Black, while Abraham was serving as a surgeon protem during the Civil War. The letter contains information about the location of regiments in Arkansas.

Biographical/Historical Note

Abraham L. Black was the son of Thomas and Mary T. Black of Melbourne, Arkansas, early settlers in Arkansas. During the Civil War, Abraham Black was a member of Hill's Regiment, Company I, Arkansas Volunteers. He served as a surgeon protem in 1862.
