This collection contains a voucher to William H. Davis of Chicot County, Arkansas, for six bales cotton, weighing twenty four hundred pounds.

Biographical/Historical Note

Confederate General C. Thomas Hindman ordered the burning of cotton, as a way to hinder the Union forces from seizing the crops after their occupation of Arkansas in 1862 during the Civil War.
