Description

This collection contains one blank receipt and one letter to Mr. Williams from John Buchanan. The letter details different quantities of food stuffs that would be traded between the two families in the coming year.

Biographical/Historical Note

John Buchanan was born January 8, 1806, in Kentucky. He moved to Cane Hill, Arkansas, in 1827, where he married Ellen Crawford on September 16, 1830. They had ten children, eight of whom lived past childhood. He was a charter member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church established in Cane Hill in 1827. He became a minister for the denomination and was an agent for the American Bible Society in Arkansas. He died January 20, 1881.
