Biographical/Historical Note

The Arkansas Historical Society was founded in 1875 by Judge U.M. Rose, Judge H.C. Caldwell, Chief Justice Elbert H. English, and other notable figures in Arkansas. The purpose of the society was to study the history of Arkansas and collect papers and historical documents. The organization only lasted for a few years.
