Description

This collection consists of correspondence, general orders, military records, publications, and news clippings relating to Heidt's military career.

Biographical/Historical Note

James Villard Heidt was born May 10, 1873, in Georgia. He married Clara Hotze, a daughter of Peter Hotze, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Heidt graduated from West Point Military Academy in 1895 and served in the United States Army until his retirement in 1937. He served in the Spanish-American War, the Cuban occupation, the Philippines insurrection, and World War I. Colonel Heidt was commanding officer of Fort Roots in North Little Rock in 1912. He died May 31, 1953.
