This collection contains the diary (original and typed transcript) of Sarah Stillwell and a scrapbook of clippings and family memorabilia kept by Sarah Stillwell and other members of the Stillwell family during the 1890s.
Biographical/Historical Note
Sarah "Sallie" Stillwell was born December 27, 1863, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Sarah Stillwell lived most of her life in Arkansas County, where she married Abner Labon Huffman in 1892. Abner Huffman and his family lived at Sassafras Prairie near DeWitt in Arkansas County. Sarah Stillwell Huffman died in Arkansas County in 1919. Sarah's father, Joseph Stillwell, was a law partner of Absalom Fowler. Joseph Stillwell was born in 1826 at Arkansas Post. He served as United States District Attorney, and as a state representative and state senator. He married Mary Ann Boswell of Batesville, Arkansas, on December 9, 1852, at the home of Absalom Fowler in Little Rock. The Stillwell family moved to Arkansas County in eastern Arkansas shortly before Joseph Stillwell's death on March 11, 1870. Sarah's mother then married John T. Marshall, a Baptist minister. After Marshall's death, she married Lewis F. Noble.
