This collection consists of Joseph E. Gaston's journal that relates to his service in the Civil War.

Biographical/Historical Note

Joseph E. Gaston was born in Alabama in 1840, the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Gaston. The family moved to Ouachita County, Arkansas, on the eve of the Civil War. Gaston served in Company B, Johnson's Fifteenth Arkansas Infantry, Confederate Army. He was captured and sent to Camp Douglas in Illinois, from which he was freed through prisoner exchange.
