Biographical/Historical Note
The Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission works with organizations and individuals to increase knowledge and use of mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. The commission is the regulatory entity for the certification and professional disciple of certified mediators. Mediators eligible to mediate cases from the Arkansas Circuit Courts must be certified by the commission. Certified mediators must also complete six hours of continuing education each year in order to renew their certificate. The commission also offers training and education, assistance in designing ADR programs, a family mediation program, and grants to fund programs to promote alternative dispute resolution in Arkansas. The commission consists of seven members who serve six-year terms. Three members are appointed by the Chief of Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court, two by the Governor, one by the President Pre Tempore of the Senate, and one by the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The commission meets regularly each quarter and holds special meetings as necessary throughout the year.
