This collection contains one broadside, a letter "To All Whom It May Concern" from Arkie McCullough Evans, describing the attack on her in 1897 near Plummerville by Pomp Brown, a black man, and stating her opposition to Gov. Jeff Davis' pardon of Brown. Along with cartoon drawings depicting the incident is the question, "How if this were your daughter, Mr. Voter?"

Biographical/Historical Note

Pomp Brown was a black man charged with assaulting a white girl, Arkie McCullogh Evans, in 1897. He was tried at Morrilton by Judge J.G. Wallace and sentenced to fifteen years in the penitentiary, of which he served five. According to Governor Jeff Davis, the Judge J.G. Wallace, the prosecuting attorney Hon. C.C.
