This collection contains one broadside, "Arkansas Confederate Generals, Civil War Heroes Whose Figures will be Carved on Stone Mountain," in Georgia. It includes Generals Churchill, Cleburne, Fagan, Govan, and Hindman.
Biographical/Historical Note
Thomas James Churchill (1824-1905) fought at the Battle of Pea Ridge, participated in the Red River Campaign, and fought at Jenkin's Ferry during the U.S. Civil War. Patrick Ronayne Cleburne (1828–1864) was the highest-ranking Irish-born officer in American military history and commanded the Yell Rifles, fought in the Battle of Shiloh, and died while leading a charge in Franklin, Tennessee. James Fleming Fagan (1828–1893) was part of the First Arkansas Infantry Regiment, which was present at the Battle of Manassas (Bull Run) and the Battle of Shiloh, was involved in the Trans-Mississippi Department, and participated in repulsing the Camden Expedition. Daniel Chevilette Govan (1827–1911) participated in several battles as lieutenant colonel of the Second Arkansas Infantry, commanded the Fifth, Sixth Seventh, and Ninth Arkansas Infantry regiments as brigadier general, and was wounded at the Battle of Nashville. Thomas Carmichael Hindman (1828–1868) helped raise a regiment that became the Second Arkansas Infantry, fought at the Battle of Shiloh, and was involved in the attempted defense of northwestern Arkansas.
