The W.L. and Mary S. DeWoody papers contain correspondence, written prayers and bible readings from the DeWoodys' missionary work, an account book, and three photographs
Biographical/Historical Note
W.L. DeWoody was born December 30, 1847 in Alabama. By 1870, he had settled in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and established the Nelson, DeWoody and Company drug store. W.L. married Mary Sorrells on May 5, 1875. She was active in local churches and mission work around Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas, and served as President of the Women's Missionary Society of the First Methodist Church of Pine Bluff. W.L. Dewoody died on June 30, 1918. Mary Sorrells Dewoody died November 20, 1934. They are both buried in the Bellwood Cemetery in Pine Bluff.
