This collection contains issues of Harper's New Monthly Magazine and The Century Magazine from 1883 to 1893.

Biographical/Historical Note

Jason B. Hendren is the donor of this collection and an attorney in Little Rock, Arkansas. He has also been a member of the Arkansas History Commission since 2017. He was elected Chairman of the commission in 2018 and 2019. Harper's New Monthly Magazine is a monthly magazine that includes articles about literature, politics, culture, finance, and the arts. It began in June of 1850 under the title of Harper's New Monthly Magazine and is the second-oldest continuously published monthly magazine in the United States. The issues in this collection contain articles on a variety of topics including the arts and information on states throughout the U.S. and articles on other countries. The Century Magazine is a monthly magazine first published in 1881 by The Century Company of New York City. It was the successor of Scribner's Monthly Magazine. It published articles on a variety of topics such as religion, history, and the arts. It ceased publication in 1930.
