Description
This collection contains material related to the Arch Street and Greater Archview Baptist Church from 1948 through 2015. The material includes church programs, committee reports, handouts, brochures, and other historical items related to the church and other church organizations. Much of the material in this collection is believed to have been collected by Edna Gibson who was an usher in the church and a chairperson of the church program committee. Many of the items have her signature and notes written on them. The collection also contains some personal material that belonged to Ed and Elmira Hubbard, who are believed to have also been members of the church.
Biographical/Historical Note
Greater Archview Baptist Church is located in Little Rock, Arkansas. The church was founded in 1881 as the Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Frank White. At that time, it was located at 8th and Broadway Streets in Little Rock. The church relocated and changed its name several times. It was moved to 11th and Arch Streets in 1902 and renamed Arch Street Baptist Church. It was again renamed the Greater Arch Street Baptist Church in 1947. In 1967, it relocated to the current location at West 23rd Street in Little Rock, Arkansas, and was renamed the Greater Archview Baptist Church.
