Description

This collection contains the Civil War Diary of Warren Harpin Riggs of Company G, Eleventh Regiment, Iowa Volunteers. Riggs kept his diary between 1861 and 1862.

Biographical/Historical Note

Warren Harpin Riggs was the son of Harpin and Malinda Hanson Riggs in Kirtland Hills, Ohio on October 5, 1837. The Riggs family moved to Iowa where Warren enrolled in Company G, Eleventh Regiment, Iowa Volunteers, United States Army on September 11, 1861. That same day, Riggs married Sarah Rebecca Mahaffy in Henry, Iowa. Riggs was promoted to full hospital steward on July 1, 1863 and discharged October 17, 1864 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
