This collection contains letters written by Cynthia Thrall to friends and family while she was at Dwight Mission, Arkansas Territory.

Biographical/Historical Note

Cynthia Thrall was born December 13, 1791. A native of Windsor, Connecticut, Thrall joined Dwight Mission, the Presbyterian mission for the Western Cherokee around 1825. She spent nine years teaching the younger students at the mission. Thrall suffered frequently from illness but was considered a valuable member of the mission by Presbyterian missionary Cephas Washburn. She died August 17, 1834, at the new mission in Indian Territory.
