Description

This letter was written by George W. Seaton to his children shortly after moving to Lonoke, Arkansas.

Biographical/Historical Note

George W. Seaton was born near Huntsville, Alabama, on June 13, 1820, to Samuel Smith Seaton and Sarah Sally Baker Seaton. The Seaton family moved to Panola County, Mississippi. In 1841 George married Lucinda Smart, who was born April 9, 1820, in Florence, Alabama, and moved with her family to Mississippi. George W. Seaton was a farmer but also spent some time teaching. In 1878 he moved his family to Lonoke, Arkansas, where he died in 1880.
