This collection contains a copy of the March 27, 1845 reply from former president Andrew Jackson to Commodore J.D. Elliott.

Biographical/Historical Note

Three months before former President Andrew Jackson's death, Commodore J.D. Elliott offered him a sarcophagus. Jackson declined because he had already chosen a humble grave for himself. Andrew Jackson died June 8, 1845 and was buried at his home, the Hermitage.
