This collection contains papers belonging to Harris Edmonson of Little Rock, Arkansas and his family between 1875 and 1910 and includes business and personal papers as well as newspaper clippings.
Biographical/Historical Note
Harris Peydell Edmonson (1857-1911) was born to Jonah Smith Edmonson and Phebe Harris Edmonson June 5, 1857 in Clarkston, Michigan. The Edmonson family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas when Harris was a young boy and where Jonah Smith Edmonson established a grocery. Harris attended Yale University for at least a year but was called back to Little Rock due to his father's illness. Harris established his own grocery, Maxwell and Edmonson but by the time of his death he was working in the insurance industry. Harris Peydell Edmonson married Luella "Lulu" Thomas in 1886. They had two children, Frances Reeve Edmonson and Elizabeth S. Edmonson. Harris Peydell Edmonson fell ill in Chicago, Illinois and died there May 2, 1911.
