This collection contains a participation certificate for the 1960 "Reflections While Standing Before the Lincoln Memorial" essay contest.
Biographical/Historical Note
Broadcast Music Inc. and the American Association for State and Local History announced a special contest in 1959 to celebrate the sesquicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birthday. The contest offered two 500 dollar prizes for best essay written on the theme "Reflections While Standing Before the Lincoln Memorial." One prize would be awarded to a professional historian or writer and the other to a nonprofessional. The winning essays were announced on February 12, 1960.
