This collection contains business and personal papers of the William Beverly Clayton family of Faulkner County, Arkansas.
Biographical/Historical Note
William Beverly Clayton was born December 15, 1864 and died September 6, 1930. He was in partnership with Mr. J.A. Mode in the business of Mode & Clayton Grocery. He married Miss Carrie Condray on March 25, 1894, and they had five children. Their oldest child, Beverly Paul Clayton, took over the operation of Mode & Clayton in the 1930’s and changed the name to Clayton Grocery Company. He was trained as a historian but dedicated himself to running the family business.
